Have you ever wondered if you need more sleep? Well, chances are, if you are wondering this, you do need more sleep. However, if you need more if you need more sleep-deprivation evidence read on:
(Note: Some of the below reasons are scientifically true, others are supposed to be funny. You be the judge of which to take seriously.)
1: You forget what you were saying mid-sentence. Often when telling a funny story you forget the punchline and are forced to say something like, "Anyway, it was funny..." to fill the expectant/awkward silence of your listeners.
2: You hit the snooze button without actually waking up.
3: You feel drowsy when driving
So what is the solution of sleep-deprivation? Well my personal favorite is from a study done by the US Navy and National Institutes of Health:
“The US Navy and National Institutes of Health have demonstrated the benefits of unrestricted sleep in experiments in which volunteers spent 14 hours daily in bed for at least a week. For the first few days, the volunteers averaged 12 hours of sleep a day or more, apparently paying off a sleep debt that averaged 25 t0 30 hours. That accomplished, they then settled back to 7.5 to 9 hours nightly and with no sleep debt, felt energized and happier”
David G. Meyers, Psychology 9th Edition
For those of you who don’t have the time to spend 14 hours in bed for a week, James B. Maas recommends going to bed 15 minutes earlier every night for a week until you can wake up without and alarm clock and stay awake for the whole day.
And for the rest of us there’s always coffee…
